Eno and the Winkies Peel Session
Just came across this Brian Eno rarity — the “Eno and the Winkies” March 1974 Peel Session:
Baby’s On Fire - the “Here Come the Warm Jets” opener, and a classic. Not quite as heavy with guitar riffage as the album version, though. Segues into: Totalled - what was eventually released as “I’ll Come Running” on “Another Green World”. This is definitely the session’s highlight for me; I love this tune. The Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch - this is a bit like the “Here Come The Warm Jets” version, but without the squalls of synth “solo” halfway through that makes that version such a classic. Fever - ick, best avoided; a not-so-hot cover version. :(
“Totalled” is well worth a listen — check out the “You’re No Good”-style 2-track interference solo in the middle!
